The Department of Psychology at Tulane University is seeking Health Psychology PhD applicants for admission for the fall of next year
Pandemic Update (October 2024): We are accepting health psychology PhD students as usual. The GRE is not required this cycle. Please contact your professor-of-interest with any specific questions. Health psychologists are needed now more than ever.
Deadline: Apply Online by November 30, 2024 for the fall incoming PhD class. In the portal select "health psychology" or "behavioral health" where prompted. The application system typically opens in late August.
Applicants: PhD applicants should be committed to research careers in health psychology. Specific interests include palliative care, psycho-oncology, healthcare decision making, adult mental health, quality of life, personality, and emotion. Students will complete innovative,
individually-tailored coursework designed in-part around
PCORI's national priorities for health research and receive tiered mentorship in project design and implementation, manuscript writing, and grant writing. They will also benefit from ongoing interdisciplinary collaborations across the Tulane Cancer Center, School of Public Health, School of Medicine, and Center for Aging, and the resources of the multi-institutional
Louisiana Clinical and Translational Science Center. Psychology PhD students receive five-year assistantships that provide nationally-competitive stipends, health insurance benefits, tuition waivers, and access to research and travel funds.
Psychology PhD Program: Our training in health psychology is provided via the broader Psychological Science PhD program, which includes neuroscience, social, and developmental psychology. The program is ideal for students who may be considering doctoral training in psychology, epidemiology, public health, or health services and outcomes research, but are compelled toward understanding the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral processes driving health. Accordingly, the program is intended for students pursuing research-focused careers rather than license eligibility as a clinical or counseling psychologist. Download our
